‘Calculated risk’ Pays off for former workmates

New Engineering Company Achieves Three Year Plan in Six Months

Going it alone and setting up an engineering company was a big decision for three local engineers, David Dean, Roger Metcalfe and Russell Coates, especially given the recent economic climate for the manufacturing industry.

They are now Directors of Teesside Precision Engineering Ltd, established in February ’10 and benefiting from funding assistance from One North East.  Additional support as also been received from Redcar & Cleveland Council, Business Link and the Natwest Bank.

In this short space of time they have gained a growing national and international customer base which has resulted in the recent purchase of new CNC machinery to further enhance capability.  This has increased the number machine tools, both Manual and CNC to 26 with capability for Turning, Milling, Vertical and Horizontal Boring.

Since February (TPE) has gone from strength to strength and they have recently celebrated securing their 60th new customer in the first six months of trading.

Now, Teesside Precision Engineering Ltd, which is based atSkippers LaneinMiddlesbrough, are supplying machined components to a wide range of sectors including the Oil & Gas, Marine, Defence, Automotive and Chemical industries.

These achievements have resulted in an expanding workforce, reaching 21 employees, including skilled machinists and administration staff.  Opportunities have been presented to four local apprentices, enabling the next generation to develop new skills, experience and employment.

In June they were awarded the ISO9001:2008 quality standard for precision machining, welding and fabrication services, which ensures businesses are operating to the highest standards of meeting customer requirements.

David Dean commented “To say this year has been eventful for us would be an understatement.  We would like to express our thanks to everyone who has contributed in assisting us with establishing the company.  We are proud of our achievements so far and of the services we are able to provide.  The majority of our clients are repeat customers, which is reflected in achieving the ISO9001 award and our commitment to continual improvement.”
